What do an Exercise Enthusiast and a web developer have in common?

A month ago I would’ve expected that sentence to be the start of a really bad joke. I have noticed that the two skills that are helping me become a better developer: the patience to build good habits and the ability to push myself to failure.

Here, I will discuss how having the patience to build habits has helped me become a better developer using a specific example where my patience helped me understand that learning to code takes time. In my University days, I would always wake between 4 and 5 am every day to go for my morning run. I would Jog for 1 hr 30 mins and do a 7 mins bodyweight exercise when I come back from my morning jog. Each day, as I woke up, I would do my morning exercise whether I felt motivated or not. This has taught me to persevere and code every day even when I don’t feel motivated.

I will also discuss how my ability to push myself to failure has helped me write better code. As a Software Developer, it’s important to learn as much as humanly possible. While I exercised daily, I pushed myself to my breaking points, and then I pushed again even further because we can never know our limits. This perseverance building has helped me develop the necessary mental strength I need to keep writing code challenges and improving my code.

Here, I will re-write that my experiences as an Exercise Enthusiast have helped me to have the patience to persevere and become a better software developer.
